A former town in Kawanuma County, Fukushima Prefecture, in the eastern part of the Aizu Basin. The birthplace of Aizu rice. An industrial area was formed using hydroelectric power from the Nippashi River. The Ban'etsu West Line and the Ban'etsu Expressway run through the town. 福島県，会津盆地東部にある河沼(かわぬま)郡の旧町。会津米の産地。日橋(にっぱし)川の水力発電を利用して工業地帯が形成された。磐越西(ばんえつさい)線，磐越自動車道が通じる。2005年11月会津若松市へ編入。39.57km2。9685人（2003）。
