Pterin

Japanese: プテリン
Pterin

2-amino-4-oxopteridine. C 6 H 5 N 5 O(163.14). It is found in Drosophila and human teeth. It is synthesized from 2,4,5-triaminopyrimidine and glyoxal. It is a pale yellow-green powder. Its melting point is over 350°C. It is easily soluble in acid and alkali, slightly soluble in water, and insoluble in ethanol and ether. It exhibits blue fluorescence (λ max 450 nm, pH 8). It is a decomposition product of folic acid, biopterin, etc. It is obtained from the wings of butterflies and other insects and fish scales. It includes isoxanthopterin (2-amino-4,7-dihydroxypteridine), which has blue fluorescence, leucopterin (2-amino-4,6,7-trihydroxypteridine), and xanthopterin (2-amino-4,6-dihydroxypteridine), which has yellow-green fluorescence.
