Pterygolepis (English spelling)

Japanese: プテリゴレピス（英語表記）Pterygolepis

A fish of the Pterygolepididae family of the Birkeniformes order of the Gnathopod subclass of the Cephalocerephagidae. It has also been given the genus name Pterolepis . It has been discovered in early Devonian strata of the Paleozoic Era. It has 10 gill slits lined up on the sides of the head. The scales in front of the gill slits are small, but the scales on the sides of the body are thin and strip-like, with two rows on the back that run diagonally forward from the dorsal edge, and three rows of scales below that that run diagonally backward. Scales with raised edges are lined up along the midline of the dorsal side of the body.

無顎綱頭甲亜綱ビルケニア目プテリゴレピス科の魚類。プテロレピスPterolepisという属名が用いられたこともある。古生代デボン紀の初期の地層から発見されている。10個の鰓孔（さいこう）が頭部側面に並ぶ。鰓孔より前方のうろこは小さいが体側のうろこは細い短冊状で，背方の2列は背縁から斜め前方に向かっているが，その下方のうろこは3列で斜め後方へ向かっている。体の背面正中線上には隆起縁をもつうろこが並んでいる。
