The Romantic poets, pioneered by Ḥalīl Muṭran (d. 1945) and perfected by others such as Majnī al‐Mājinī (1889‐1949), Shukrī (d. 1958), 'Abbās Maḥmūd al‐'Aqqād (1889‐1964), and Jubrān (d. 1931), sought personal liberation from traditional shackles.
