A mask maker from the Nara period. His birth and death years are unknown. Many of his masks have his name written on them along with the date of the Great Buddha's eye-opening ceremony on April 9, 752 (Tenpyo Shoho 4). In wood carvings, he writes "Shori" and in dry lacquer, "Sangri". He appears to have been the most skilled of the mask makers of his time, and the wooden sumo wrestler mask in the Shosoin Repository and the dry lacquer mask of the drunken monk in Todaiji Temple are representative of his work.
