A former town in Tamura County in the Abukuma Highlands in central-eastern Fukushima Prefecture. It is a major tobacco producing area, and also produces silkworms, rice, and livestock. In March 2005, it merged with Takine Town, Ogoe Town, Tokoha Town, and Miyakoji Village in Tamura County to become a city. Area: 161.16 km2 . Population: 23,795 (2003).
