Nine Temples - Jiu-si; Chiu-ssǔ
The Chinese government system. The main governmental organization that constituted the central government after the Qin and Han periods. During the Six Dynasties period, the chief was called a qing and the government offices were called ji. The Fengchang (Taichang in the Han) was in charge of religious rites, the Langzhongling (Guangluxun in the Han) was in charge of night guards at the palace, the Weiwei was in charge of guarding the palace, the Taibo was in charge of the emperor's carriages and livestock, the Tingwei was in charge of justice, the Dengke (Dahonglu in the Han) was in charge of tribute from feudal lords and barbarians, the Zongzheng was in charge of the emperor's family, the Zhi'ao Neishi (Dasi Nong in the Han) was in charge of national finances, and the Shaofu was in charge of the finances of the imperial household. After the Six Dynasties period, the Minister of State, who was directly under the emperor, gained power and the organization of the Six Departments developed, overlapping with the Nine Temples, and in the Sui and Tang dynasties, the organization of the Six Departments was established and the importance of the Nine Temples decreased.
