Born as a samurai of the Tokushima domain, he went to Tokyo to study the Shinto scriptures and became a Shinto professor for the Yoshida family, traveling around the country to promote Shinto. He wrote popular Shinto books praising the divine nation of Japan, such as "Nenchu Koji" and "Sugake Seikeiroku," and called Kamo no Mabuchi a "wicked traitor to the nation." It is said that his influence extended to Yoshida Shoin.
