Died in 1556. Karbala. Ottoman poet. Real name Mehmed ibn Süleyman. Lived in Iraq all his life. A Turk of Azerbaijani descent, he was a leading figure in classical court literature. He gained fame by presenting poems to Sultan Suleiman I when he conquered Baghdad in 1534. He was influenced by the Chagatai scholar Naba'i and Persian poetry, and his tragic love poem Leylâ ile Mecnûn (1848) is a good example of this. His main work, Collection of Poems Divân (38), was written in Azerbaijani.

オスマン帝国の詩人。本名 Mehmed ibn Süleyman。生涯イラクに住んだ。アゼルバイジャン系のトルコ人で，古典派宮廷文学の第一人者。 1534年スレイマン1世のバグダード征服に際して，帝に詩を献上して名声を得た。チャガタイ語文学者ナバーイーとペルシア詩から影響を受け，悲恋の詩『ライラーとマジュヌーン』 Leylâ ile Mecnûn (1848) はその好例。主著『詩集』 Divân (38) はアゼルバイジャン語で書かれている。
