Born in the 4th year of the Jowa era (1336-1468), he was a follower of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism. He followed the teachings of Shun'oku Myoha and studied poetry and prose under Gido Shushin. He later became the chief priest of Kennin-ji and Nanzen-ji temples. He was highly valued by the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimochi, but in 1420 he became enraged and retired, and his whereabouts thereafter are unknown.
