Heigawa River

This river originates at Mt. Kabutomyojindake (1,005 meters) in the Kitakami Highlands in central Iwate Prefecture, flows east through the Kuzakai Plateau, and empties into Miyako Bay at Fujiwara in Miyako City. It is 75.7 kilometers long. It brings together tributaries such as the Oyama River, Natsuya River, Oguni River, Kariya River, and Nagasawa River, and created a wide alluvial plain downstream, which led to the development of Miyako City on the river mouth delta. The downstream is blessed with a variety of scenic oddly shaped rocks, and is home to many fish species. The JR Yamada Line and National Route 106 run parallel to it.

岩手県中央部の北上(きたかみ)高地兜明神岳(かぶとみょうじんだけ)（1005メートル）に源を発し、区堺(くざかい)高原を東流、宮古(みやこ)市藤原(ふじわら)で宮古湾に注ぐ川。延長75.7キロメートル。御山(おやま)川、夏屋(なつや)川、小国(おぐに)川、刈屋(かりや)川、長沢(ながさわ)などの支流を集め、下流では広い沖積地をつくり河口三角州に宮古市を発展させた。下流は変化に富む奇岩景勝に恵まれ、魚類の生息も多い。JR山田線、国道106号が並走している。
