Fujikawa

Japanese: 藤川 - ふじかわ

A district of Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture. Former Fujikawa Town. Fujikawa-juku was a post town on the old Tokaido road, established in 1601 (Keicho 6) by moving part of Yamanaka Village. It is about 6 km from Okazaki-juku. According to records from 1843 (Tenpo 14), together with the Ichiba Village of Kajuku, there were 36 inns, 48 teahouses, and 30 women's restaurants, as well as a main inn and a side inn. The Fujikawa-juku Museum was built at the site of the side inn. A Basho haiku monument and rows of pine trees remain. National Route 1 runs through the area, and Fujikawa Station on the Nagoya Railroad Main Line is located here.

愛知県岡崎市の一地区。旧藤川町。藤川宿は旧東海道の宿場町で、1601年（慶長6）山中村の一部を移してつくった。岡崎宿まで約6キロメートル。1843年（天保14）の記録では加宿の市場村とあわせて旅籠(はたご)36、茶店48、飯盛(めしもり)女30とあり、本陣、脇(わき)本陣もあった。脇本陣跡には藤川宿資料館がつくられている。芭蕉(ばしょう)句碑、松並木などを残している。国道1号が通じ、名古屋鉄道本線藤川駅がある。
