Fuji River

Japanese: 富士川 - ふじがわ
Fuji River
A river that straddles three prefectures: Nagano, Yamanashi, and Shizuoka. It is 128 km long and has a drainage area of 3,990 km2 . The Kamanashi River and Fuefuki River join together in the upper reaches near Ichikawa Daimoncho (now Ichikawa Misatocho), and flow southward through a deep gorge before emptying into Suruga Bay at the western edge of Fuji City. In the Manyoshu, it appears as the Fujin River, and in Nichiren's letters it is described as the fastest river in Japan. In the Edo period, rice, salt, seafood, and other products were transported by boat. The river valley has long been used as a connecting route between the Kofu Basin and the Tokai region, and boat transport was also active until the Minobu Line was opened. It has an abundant water volume and many power plants.
