Apollonios (of Tyana)

Japanese: アポロニオス[テュアナの]（英語表記）Apollōnios

A 1st century Neo-Pythagorean philosopher. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born in Tyana in Asia Minor. According to the biography of Philostratus, he spent his life as a celibate ascetic, traveling from place to place and performing various miracles. He is also said to have reached India. He was persecuted by Emperor Domitian, but is said to have witnessed the emperor's death with his clairvoyance. Due to his magical powers, he was hailed by the people of his time as an all-powerful savior. He is often compared to Jesus Christ. [Onuma Tadahiro]
