Order Coleoptera, Family Carabidae. A tropical ground beetle with a unique shape. It is named after the shape of the whole when viewed from above, and is also called a violin beetle. Body length 60-80mm. The body is flat and brown, with a long and slender head and thin antennae. There are notches on the side edge of the pronotum, and in addition to the normal upper wings, the abdomen has flat, cracker-like protrusions on both sides. A carnivorous insect that lives on polychaetes in tropical jungles, its morphology and ecology are not what you would expect from a ground beetle. It is distributed in the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra, and Java. Several closely related species are also found in these areas.

甲虫目ゴミムシ科。特異な形態をした熱帯性のゴミムシの1種。全体を上から見た形からこの名があり，またバイオリンムシともいわれる。体長 60～80mm。体は平たく茶褐色，頭部は細長く，触角も細い。前胸背の側縁に刻みがあり，腹部は本来の上翅部分に加えて，左右の側縁から薄焼きのせんべい状の平たい突出物をもつ。熱帯ジャングル内のサルノコシカケ上で生活する肉食性の昆虫で，形態，生態ともゴミムシ類と思えないものである。マライ半島，ボルネオ島，スマトラ島，ジャワ島に分布する。近縁の数種もこれらの地方にみられる。
