Obo Festival - Obosai

...Sometimes several obo are lined up. The Mongolians believe that the gods of heaven and earth descend to reside in these (there is also a view that the obo itself is the god of earth), and hold an obo festival every summer, offering live animals such as cattle and horses, or their meat, dairy products, and other items, praying for fertility, health, and other benefits for the five animals, walking around the obo, and offering horse racing, sumo wrestling, and archery. In recent years, the priests of this festival have often been lamas, but before the spread of Lamaism, they were shamans.
