Būshehr (English spelling)

The capital of Bushehr Province in southern Iran. A port city on the Persian Gulf. Population: 143,641 (1996), 223,504 (2016 Census). Built as a naval base in the first half of the 18th century, it developed as a center of maritime trade in the Persian Gulf, especially as relations with Britain deepened. In 1938, it lost its status when the Trans-Iranian Railway was built to present-day Bandar Khomeini.

イラン南部、ブーシェフル州の州都。ペルシア湾に臨む港湾都市。人口14万3641（1996）、22万3504（2016センサス）。18世紀前半、海軍基地として建設され、以後、ペルシア湾海上貿易の中心として、とくにイギリスとの関係が深まるに伴って発展した。1938年、イラン縦貫鉄道が現在のバンダル・ホメイニまで敷設されると、その地位を奪われた。
