A biennial plant of the Brassicaceae family. It is also called Suigukina because of its unique sour taste when pickled, and Kamona (Kamona) after the place name. The leaves are hairless and spatula-shaped, with various degrees of notching on the leaf margin. The roots swell to an inverted cone shape. It is a Kyoto specialty and is mostly cultivated in the Kyoto area, but has recently been grown in the Tamba region as well. Its history is unclear, but it is recognized that it has been cultivated for about 300 years, as it is mentioned in documents from the Edo period. It is a turnip/rapeseed species, and the old original species has become extinct, and the one cultivated today is derived from a cross between the original species and Shogoin turnip and rapeseed in the late Meiji period.
