Isshin Tasuke

Japanese:
Isshin Tasuke
A fishmonger from the early Edo period. According to the records (stone tower) of Ryugyoji Temple in Shiba Shirokane, Edo (Minato Ward, Tokyo), he died on December 23, 1674 (Enpo 2). As he is a fictional character, there are variations in his name, such as in the novel "Okubo Musashi Abumi" (Okubo Musashi Abumi). According to Momokawa's real name (Bungei Club, July 15, 1901), his real surname was Yabujiri, and he was called Isshin Tasuke because of the "Isshin Jokyo" tattoo on his body. He was a farmer from Kira in Mikawa Province (Aichi Prefecture), who was discovered by the feudal lord Okubo Hikozaemon and promoted to the samurai class in Edo. During a banquet at Hikozaemon's residence, he took on the responsibility of the maid Kikuno, who broke a plate, and broke all the remaining plates, but Hikozaemon touched her collar with the back of his sword and forgave her. Taking this opportunity, Tasuke became a fishmonger, frequenting various parts of Edo, finding out about the affairs of the common people, and becoming acquainted with Hikozaemon, earning him the nickname of a trusted advisor. He was not featured in a senryu poem until 1833 in the "Yanagi Taru" series, and he is thought to have first appeared as a character in a play in 1855 in the "Meiko Temari Funari Jitsuroku" which premiered at the Edo Nakamuraza Theatre, and he is probably much better known today than he was during the Edo period. <References> "Mitamura Engyo Complete Works" Vol. 5
