Prayer and incantation - Kajikito

Japanese:
Prayer and incantation - Kajikito
A kind of incantation performed on gods and Buddhas to make some wish come true. Originally in esoteric Buddhism, kaji refers to the great compassion of the Tathagata and the faith of all living beings, while kinrai refers to seeking worldly blessings such as expelling disasters and curing illnesses, but generally the two are used synonymously. In kaji, a Shingon practitioner makes mudras with his hands, recites mantras, and contemplates the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in his mind, performing what is known as the triple kaji. At the Goshichinichi no Mishyuho ceremony, which has been held every New Year since the mid-Heian period at the Imperial Court in Japan, the head priest of Toji Temple pours kaji perfume on the Emperor and prays for peace.
