Products from forests. Timber is the most representative and is broadly divided into firewood, charcoal, and specialty forest products. Timber is divided into general-purpose timber, pulp and chip timber, plywood timber, pit timber, sleepers, etc. Japan's total demand is 113.24 million ^m3 , of which 47.5% is for sawn timber, 36.5% for pulp and chip, 12.8% for plywood, and 3.2% for other uses. Pit timber, sleepers, etc. tend to be replaced by non-wood substitutes. Domestic timber accounts for only about a quarter of the total general-purpose timber supply, far surpassing imported timber. Specialty forest products include edible nuts, mushrooms, bark, oils and fats, and bamboo, with shiitake mushrooms taking up a representative position. (→ Forest Products )

森林からの生産物。用材を代表とし，薪炭材，特殊林産物に大別される。用材は一般用材，パルプ・チップ用材，合板用材，坑木，枕木などに区分される。日本の総需要量は1億 1324万m³で，製材用が 47.5%，パルプ・チップ用が 36.5%，合単板用 12.8%，その他 3.2%となっており，坑木，枕木などは非木質代替品に代る傾向が強い。一般用材供給量のうち国産材の割合は，全体の約四分の一程度と外材に圧倒されている。特殊林産物は食用樹実，きのこ，樹皮，油脂，竹材のうち，しいたけが代表的な地位を占めている。 (→林産製品 )
