Guangdong Delta

…During the Ming Dynasty, the Guangdong Provincial Office was established, and the boundaries of Guangdong Province were determined. Foreign trade had been active since ancient times, centering on Guangzhou, and it was the first region to come into contact with Western countries, but in 1887 (Guangxu 13), Macau, at the southwestern end of the Guangdong Delta, became a Portuguese colony, and in 1842 (Taoguang 22), Hong Kong Island was ceded to Britain, and in 1860 (Xianfeng 10), Kowloon on the opposite coast was ceded to Britain. In 1898 (Guangxu 24), the entire Kowloon Peninsula became a British leased territory, which remains to this day. …
