A medieval port in Harima Province. It corresponds to Fukudomari, Matogatacho, Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, facing the Harima Nada Sea. Karadomari, one of the "Five Ports" in the ancient Seto Inland Sea, is believed to be located in this area. Around 1292, Gyoenbo Kenson, a monk of the Ritsu sect, became the "Fukudomari Island Kanjin" priest, and started a project to repair the island to protect Fukudomari from wind and waves, collecting a tax of 200 to 300 mon per ship. According to the Mine Aiki, Ando Rensho, who took over Kenson's project in 1302, invested several hundred kan of coins to build Fukudomari Island, which jutted out about two cho (100 m2) offshore, completing the construction of the port. The port prospered after that, but during the Nanboku-cho period, sand that had accumulated at the mouth of the Kako River was washed ashore by the waves and filled up the port, causing it to gradually decline. During the Edo period, it became Fukudomari Village, Innami County, Harima Province. → Related article Kanzaki Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
