Regional science

Japanese: 地域科学 - ちいきかがく（英語表記）regional science

It is a science that deals with regions as part of the earth's surface, and includes geography, economics, sociology, demography, urban engineering, and others. However, nowadays it generally refers to the theory of W. Isard of the United States after World War II. It uses mathematical models to investigate the spatial dimension of human activities, and is considered a type of econometrics. According to Isard, the spatial dimension refers to the spatial relationships between humans and human activities, and the spatial relationships between these and the natural environment. While geography deals with the surface space filled with things, regional science studies abstract spaces to which quantitative methods can be easily applied.
