A general term for the genus Fescue of the Poaceae family. Many of these annual or perennial plants are important as pasture grasses. Meadow fescue is a perennial plant native to Europe. It grows to a height of 50-120 cm, with broad linear leaves 4-8 mm wide. From June to August, it produces relatively large cone-shaped inflorescences and many spikelets. It was originally introduced as pasture grass, but has now become naturalized on roadsides and wastelands, and is also planted for soil conservation. The closely related tall fescue is large overall and is also a naturalized plant native to Europe. Fescue is widely distributed from temperate to subarctic zones in the Northern Hemisphere, and in Japan it grows wild in sunny alpine to mountainous areas. It is small, only 20-40 cm tall, with thin, hard stems and leaves. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
