Fesca - Fesca (English spelling) Max Fesca

German agronomist. Born in Prussia. Received his doctorate in 1873, and became a private lecturer at the University of Göttingen in 1875. Invited by the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, he came to Japan in 1882 (Meiji 15), where he supervised soil survey work at the Geological Survey of Japan until 1894. Until 1892, he also served as an agricultural teacher at Komaba Agricultural School and its successor, the Tokyo Agricultural and Forestry School, and the Imperial University College of Agriculture. His major works include "Nihon no gyōgō to hokkaido komin-ron" (1888) and "nihon chisan-ron" (1891-1894). After returning to Japan, he engaged in research on tropical agriculture at the Berlin Agricultural University, the Witzenhausen and the Hamburg Colonial School, and left behind " Der Pflanzenbau in den Tropen und Subtropen " (1904-1911). He died in Wiesbaden.

ドイツの農学者。プロイセンに生まれる。1873年ドクトルの学位を授与され、1875年ゲッティンゲン大学の私講師となる。農商務省の招きにより1882年（明治15）来日、1894年まで地質調査所で土性調査事業を指導し、1892年までは駒場農学校(こまばのうがっこう)およびその後身の東京農林学校、帝国大学農科大学の農学教師を兼任した。主著に『日本農業及北海道殖民論』（1888）、『日本地産論』（1891～1894）がある。帰国後はベルリン農科大学、ウィッツェンハウゼンおよびハンブルク植民学校において熱帯農業の研究に従事、『Der Pflanzenbau in den Tropen und Subtropen』（1904～1911）の著書を残した。ウィースバーデンにおいて死去。
