Japanese: リスク･マネジメント（英語表記）risk management

Risk (danger) is a state in which the outcome of an action cannot be predicted with certainty, or a state in which an action may result in unforeseen consequences. There are various degrees of risk, from states in which possible outcomes and their probabilities are known, to states in which the probability is objectively unknown, to states in which it is completely unknown what outcomes may occur. When carrying out an action, whether an individual or an organization (such as a company or government), a series of planning and control processes are called risk management, which involves assessing the risk situation in advance, taking the best possible measures, and taking appropriate measures if undesirable outcomes occur afterwards.

行動の結果を確実に予測できない状態，あるいは行動に伴って不測の結果が発生する可能性がある状態をリスク(危険)という。リスクには，起こりうる結果とその確率がわかっている状態から，確率が客観的にわからない状態，そしてどのような結果が生じうるかさえまったくわからない状態まで，さまざまの程度がある。個人にせよ組織(企業，政府など)にせよ，ある行動を実行するに際して，事前にリスクの状態を評価し，最善の対策を講ずるとともに，事後的に好ましくない結果が生じたときに適切な処置をとる，一連の計画･統制の過程をリスク･マネジメントという。
