Belgian French-language poet. Lived in Paris from 1887. Wrote dark, melancholic poems set against the backdrop of his hometown. Representative collections of poems include "White Youth" (1886), "The Silent World" (1891), and "A Closed Life" (1896). His novels include "Dead City of Bruges".
