A former town in Waga District, western Iwate Prefecture. Occupying mountainous land in the upper reaches of the Waga River, a tributary of the Kitakami River, the town developed around Hottoyuda Station on the Kitakami Line. There were many mines, which produced copper, iron, and sulfide ores, but they have since been closed. There is the Yuda Dam, and to the north of the town is the Yumoto Onsen, which has abundant hot water. In November 2005, it merged with Sawauchi Village, Waga District, to become a town, Nishiwaga Town, Waga District. Area: 304.56 km2 . Population: 3,983 (2003).
