Attractant - Yuinzai

A chemical used to lure pests. Insects can be attracted by chemicals, as well as physical methods such as light, color, and heat. Attracted pests can be captured using traps or "hooks" (adhesive) to control them, or observed to predict their occurrence. In addition, attractants can be mixed with edible insecticides to make poison bait and use it to exterminate pests by poisoning them. The main ones in practical use include eugenol and methyl eugenol used for scarab beetles and citrus fruit flies, geraniol used for scarab beetles, hydrolyzates of soybeans and yeast that attract melon flies, metaldehyde that attracts and poisons slugs, and aggregation pheromones extracted and refined from cockroach droppings that attract cockroaches. Furthermore, as part of the experimental stage for outbreak prediction and control, synthetic compounds with similar effects to sex pheromones, the chemical structures of which have been identified from studies of the secretions of virgin females of peach fruit moth, brown rice moth, smaller apple tortrix, smaller tea tortrix, and cotton boll weevil, are being used to attract adult males.

害虫をおびき寄せるために使う薬剤。虫を誘引する方法は、化学物質のほか、光や色や熱など物理的方法もある。誘引した害虫は、トラップや「とりもち」（粘着剤）などの方法でとらえて害虫駆除の手段とするほか、発生予察の目的で観察する場合もある。また、誘引剤と食毒性殺虫剤を調合して毒餌(どくじ)とし、毒殺による駆除に使う場合もある。実用化されている主要なものは、コガネムシ類やミカンコミバエなどに用いるオイゲノールやメチルオイゲノール、コガネムシ類に使うゲラニオール、ウリミバエを誘引するダイズや酵母の加水分解物、ナメクジを誘引毒殺するメタアルデヒド、ゴキブリを誘引するゴキブリの糞(ふん)から抽出精製した集合フェロモンなどがある。また、発生予察や防除の試験段階として、モモシンクイガ、チャマダラメイガ、リンゴノコカクモンハマキ、チャノコカクモンハマキ、ワタミゾウムシなどの処女雌の分泌物の研究から化学構造の判明した性フェロモンと同様の効果のある類縁合成化合物が、雄成虫の誘引に使用されている。
