Hyotanyama Kofun - Hyotanyama Kofun
This keyhole-shaped tumulus is located in Miyazu, Azuchi-cho, Gamo-gun, Shiga Prefecture. It was built facing almost northwest on the western foot of Mt. Kannonji, which juts out into the Koto Plain, and measures 162m in length, 90m in diameter at the rear mound, and 70m in width at the front. In 1935, two box-shaped stone coffins were discovered in the front mound, and jewels and stone bracelets were extracted from one of them. The following year, Shiga Prefecture conducted an excavation survey, and discovered three pit-type stone chambers perpendicular to the main axis of the tumulus in the rear mound. The central stone chamber measures 6.6m in length, 1.3m in width, and 1.1m in height, and its walls are made of neat slab stone.
