Born: September 6, 1825 / October 25, 1825 Leghorn
Died: August 30, 1908. Italian painter from Florence. He excelled at observing nature, and initially had a realistic style of painting, but later participated in the founding of the so-called Macchiaioli school. He used the division technique to paint military and peasant life, coastal marsh landscapes, and other subjects, and later painted with relatively flat color planes. His major works include "Cavalry" (1859, Milan Museum of Modern Art) and "Inspection" (c. 1885).

イタリアの画家。自然観察にすぐれ，初めはリアリスティックな画風であったが，のちにいわゆるマキアイオリ派の創設に参加。軍隊や農民の生活，海岸の沼沢地風景などを分割描法で描き，さらにのちには比較的平坦な色面で描いた。主要作品『騎兵』 (1859，ミラノ近代美術館) ，『巡察』 (85頃) 。
