Yao Guangxiao (English: Yao Guang-xiao; Yao Kuang-hsiao)

Chinese politician and monk in the early Ming Dynasty. Born in Changzhou (Wu County, Jiangsu Province). His pen name was Shidao. His monk name was Daoyan. His posthumous name was Gongjing. When Empress Gao of Emperor Hongwu died in 1382, he was assigned to the King of Yan (→Emperor Yongle) to hold a memorial service for her. Later, in 99, he encouraged King to initiate the Jingnan Rebellion, which made King emperor. He was given the title of Prince's Junior Tutor for this achievement, and returned to secular life. He participated in the compilation of the "Annals of the Emperor Taizu" and the "Yongle Encyclopedia." He was also famous as a monk, and wrote works such as "Daoyu Lu" and "Essential Records of Pure Land Writings."

中国，明初の政治家，僧侶。長洲 (江蘇省呉県) の人。字は斯道。僧名は道衍 (どうえん) 。諡は恭靖。洪武 15 (1382) 年洪武帝の高皇后が没したとき，その追善供養のため燕王 (→永楽帝 ) に配属された。のち建文1 (99) 年，王にすすめて靖難の変を起させ，王を帝位につけた。その功により太子少師の地位を授けられて還俗し，『太祖実録』や『永楽大典』の編纂にあずかった。僧侶としても著名で，『道余録』『浄土簡要録』などの著書がある。
