Qing Dynasty Art

The Qing dynasty, which emerged at the end of China's dynasty system that had continued for several thousand years, can be said to have played a terminal role in art history as well, bringing the curtain down on the era. Since it was no longer possible for the Republic of China or the present-day People's Republic of China to inherit and pursue traditions in the same structure after the fall of the Qing dynasty, art of the Qing dynasty marked the end of classicism, which had continued to develop for a long time, and gave history an unprecedentedly large period division. The rise and fall of art over the 300 years of the Qing dynasty can be said to have progressed in tandem with the dynasty's cultural fortunes and the transitions in state power.

数千年にわたって続いた中国王朝制度の最後に登場した清朝は，美術史のうえでも終末的な役割を果たして歴史の幕を閉じたといえる。清朝滅亡以後，中華民国や現在の中華人民共和国では再び同じ構造で伝統を継承し，追求することがもはやありえないことからも，清朝の美術は，長いあいだ展開を続けてきた古典主義の終焉ともいえる段階にあたり，その歴史にかつてない大きな時代区分を与えている。　清朝300年の美術の消長は，王朝の文運，国家権力の推移と歩みを一にしているといえよう。
