This refers to events held by fashion designers and the fashion industry to present new works. In France, they are called collections (also called présentation de collections), and used to be held twice a year, in spring/summer and autumn/winter. In 1954, French fashion designer Jacques Fath (1912-54) opened a prêt-à-porter (high-end ready-to-wear) department within his haute couture line, and announced that the works from that department could be combined with skirts from the ready-to-wear store Rodier, sparking the rise of prêt-à-porter.
