Born April 21, 1818 in Lanesborough, Massachusetts
[Died] October 14, 1885. Monterey, California. American humorist. Real name Henry Wheeler Shaw. After dropping out of college, he wandered the West, working in various jobs. In his middle age, he was recognized for his humorous social satire, which led to the publication of Josh Billings: His Sayings (1865). After 1867, he became famous as a contributor to the New York Weekly, and published a series of articles that exploited the humor of rural spelling and grammar. His other works include Farmer's Allminax (70-79).

A city along the Yellowstone River in south-central Montana, USA. It is located at an altitude of 951m. It was newly established in 1882 with the construction of the Northern Pacific Railroad, and irrigation agriculture and cattle ranching became popular around 1900. It is the center of the agricultural region, producing sugar beets, wheat, and wool, and also raising chickens and pigs. There are meat processing plants, flour mills, and oil refineries. It is also home to East Montana University (1927) and other facilities. Population 81,151 (1990).

アメリカ合衆国,モンタナ州中南部,イエローストーン川に沿う都市。標高 951mの高地に位置する。 1882年ノーザン・パシフィック鉄道の敷設によって新設された都市で,1900年頃から灌漑農業と牧牛が盛んになった。農業地域の中心地で,テンサイ,コムギ,羊毛を産し,養鶏,養豚も行う。精肉加工,製粉,精油工場がある。イーストモンタナ大学 (1927) その他がある。人口8万 1151 (1990) 。
