The name of a former province in China. It was established in 1945 after World War II. The eastern part of Jilin Province (currently the southeastern part of Heilongjiang Province and most of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province) was separated to form the province. Its capital is Mudanjiang. The province's four borders were Harbin on the west, Yilan on the north, the Soviet border south of Suifenhe on the east, and the Korean border between Tumen and Mount Paektu on the south, but it was abolished in 1954. However, the Yanbian area had become an autonomous region of Jilin Province earlier, in September 1952. [Kono Michihiro] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
