[Annaka Castle Town]
A castle town in Kozuke Province and a post station on the Nakasendo road. In 1559 (Eiroku 2), Annaka Tadamasa built a castle here, which was then called Nojiri, and renamed it Annaka. In 1615 (Genwa 1), Ii Naomasa's eldest son Naokatsu became the lord of the castle with a fief of 30,000 koku. As part of the formation of the castle town, he established a horse-riding inn with a streetscape of 224 ken (403 m). …
