A gigantic squid (illustration) of the family Colossal Squididae in the class Cephalopoda, with a mantle length of 1.2m. It is said to live in the mid-level waters near Japan, but is rarely caught in fishing nets. It is often found washed up dead on the Pacific coast or the Sea of Japan coast, and is often found in the stomachs of sperm whales. The muscles of its body are flexible and loose, and its fins are oval. Its arms have two rows of suckers, and its tentacles are very slender and can reach 6.5m, but the palms are narrow. The family Colossal Squid is the largest squid in the world, and about 10 species are known from around the world, but because it is so large, there are few opportunities to study its entire body, and its classification has not been established.
