…Nymphenburg means “Nymph Castle.” It was originally a summer palace given to his wife by Elector Ferdinand Maria of Bavaria, and was built between 1664 and 1674 by Italian Agostino Barelli (c. 1627-87) and others. In the early 18th century, Elector Max Emanuel was inspired by the Palace of Versailles and expanded it into a Baroque palace that spread out on both sides, with architect Giovanni Antonio Viscardi (1645-1713) and others in charge. …
