The university brand of University of Tsukuba (Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture).
The world's first fully-worn robot suit. It was developed in collaboration with Professor Yoshiyuki Sankai of the Graduate School of Systems and Information Engineering and CYBERDYNE Inc. (Tsukuba City), a venture company spun off from Tsukuba University, and took into account the opinions of users. When the wearer tries to move their muscles, the weak bioelectric potential signals that leak out onto the skin's surface are read by sensors, and based on the results, the power unit is controlled to move the joints and support the wearer's muscle movements. In addition to the bioelectric potential sensors, angle sensors that measure joint angles and floor reaction force sensors that detect the position of the center of gravity are also attached, enabling human-like movements. It is expected that this suit will be commercialized in the future for nursing support for the elderly and those with physical disabilities, work support at workplaces, and disaster relief. Awarded the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award. Handling by CYBERDYNE Inc. The "cybernics" project being promoted by the Sankai Laboratory was selected as a base for the Global COE Program in 2007. The trademark for the robot suit HAL has been registered and applied for by CYBERDYNE Inc.

筑波大学（茨城県つくば市）の大学ブランド。
世界で初めての全身装着型ロボットスーツ。大学院システム情報工学研究科・山海嘉之教授と筑波大学発ベンチャーであるCYBERDYNE株式会社(つくば市)とが連携し、利用者の声を取り入れながら開発した。装着者が筋肉を動かそうとしたとき皮膚表面に漏れ出てくる微弱な生体電位信号をセンサーで読み取り、それの結果をもとにパワーユニット制御をおこなって関節を動かし、装着者の筋肉の動きを支援する。生体電位センサーの他にも、関節角度を測定する角度センサー、重心の位置を検出する床反力センサー等を取り付け、人間のような動作が可能となった。今後、高齢者や身体運動機能障害者の介護支援や労働現場での作業支援、災害救助などでの事業化が期待されている。経済産業大臣賞受賞。CYBERDYNE株式会社取り扱い。なお、山海研究室の進める「サイバニクス」は、2007(平成19)年度グローバルCOEプログラム拠点に採択された。なお、ロボットスーツHALに関する商標は、CYBERDYNE株式会社によって登録・出願されている。
