Marsh fern

Japanese: ヒメシダ（英語表記）marsh fern

A summer-green fern, herbaceous member of the Thelypteridaceae family (illustration), that grows on ridges and in moist grasslands in full sun. The rhizome runs long and horizontally, with yellowish-brown membranous scales at the tip, but the older parts are bare. The leaves are erect, and the taller ones bear sporangia. The petiole reaches 25 cm, is hairy, and has scales at the base. The leaves are deeply pinnately lobed twice, with the pinnae wide at the base, the lobes deeply incised, and the recesses between them wide. The lobes are entire, with bifurcated veins that reach the margins. The sporangia are arranged halfway between the margins and the midrib of the lobes, and may join adjacent ones when mature.

あぜや，よく日の当たる湿った草原などに生える夏緑性のシダ植物ヒメシダ科の草本（イラスト）。根茎は長く横走し，先端に黄褐色で膜質の鱗片をつけるが，古い部分は裸出している。葉は直立し，胞子囊をつける葉が高くなる。葉柄は25cmに達し，有毛，基部に鱗片をつける。葉は2回羽状深裂，羽片は基部で広く，裂片は深く切れ込んで，間の凹部は幅が広い。裂片は全縁で，二叉（にさ）分枝する葉脈が辺縁に達する。胞子囊群は裂片の辺縁と中肋の中間に並び，成熟すると隣のものとくっつくことがある。
