…ニシン(鰊)漁で歌われる労作歌で，初めに〈ヤーレンソーランソーラン……〉と歌い出すところから名がつけられた。ニシン漁はその作業によって〈船漕ぎ音頭〉〈網起し音頭〉〈沖揚げ音頭〉などが歌われるが，この歌は〈沖揚げ音頭〉である。とったニシンを汲（くみ）船(運搬船)に移す作業を〈沖揚げ〉といい，この時に歌われるのが《ソーラン節》で，〈ヤーレソラソーラ〉と漁師たちを力づけ，囃したてる言葉とみてよい。…
