Hinomisaki

A cape located in Mihama-cho, Hidaka-gun, central Wakayama Prefecture. It is at the southern end of the ria coast in the northwestern Kii Peninsula, where the Shirama Mountains jut out into the Kii Channel, facing Cape Kamoda in Shikoku. At the tip of the cape is Hinoyama (202 meters). To the north is Hiiura, also known as Hii-misaki. It is a dangerous sea spot, described in the Manyoshu as Kazahaya no Hama, and in Wadaura is Misaki Myojin Shrine, the guardian deity of Misaki. A boat watchtower was placed at the tip of the cape during the Kii Domain era, and now the naturally flickering Hinomisaki Lighthouse stands. It has a vast view and is included in Enju Coast Prefectural Natural Park. There are public lodging facilities and America-mura nearby.

和歌山県中部、日高郡美浜(みはま)町にある岬。紀伊半島北西部のリアス式海岸の南端にあたり、白馬(しらま)山脈が紀伊水道に突出した岬で、四国の蒲生田(かもだ)岬と相対する。岬端(こうたん)に日ノ山（202メートル）がある。北に比井(ひい)浦があり比井御崎(ひいのみさき)ともいう。『万葉集』に風早浜(かざはやのはま)とある海の難所で、和田浦には御埼の守護神という御埼明神社がある。岬端には紀伊藩政期に船見番所が置かれ、いまは自然点滅の日ノ御埼灯台がある。展望広大で煙樹(えんじゅ)海岸県立自然公園に含まれ、国民宿舎などがあり、近くにはアメリカ村がある。
