...It grows in colonies in open grasslands and deforested areas in the subalpine zone, and sometimes in the alpine zone. In Japan, the hairless leaves of the woolly willow herb are found from Hokkaido to the central Tohoku region, while the hairy leaves of the soft-sedge willow herb are found from the Tohoku region to the Chubu region. Willow herb is widely distributed throughout Japan and the northern part of the Northern Hemisphere.
