Ratio estimate

Japanese: 比推定 - ひすいてい（英語表記）ratio estimate

One of the estimation methods used in mathematical statistics. Suppose there are N jars, each containing a different amount and concentration of salt water. Number the jars and let the amount of salt water in the k -th jar be x _k and the amount of salt it contains be y _k . In this case, there are two types of measurements: x ₁ , x ₂ , …, x _N y ₁ , y ₂ , …, y _N. Assume that N is a very large number, and that it is possible to inspect the salt water in the first n jars ( n < N ). In other words, x ₁ , x ₂ , …, x _n ; y ₁ , y ₂ , …, y _n can be known.

数理統計学で用いられる推定法の一つ。N個の壺があり，それぞれの壺の中に量，濃度の異なる食塩水が入っているとしよう。壺に番号をつけk番目の壺に入っている食塩水の量をx_k，その食塩水が含む食塩の量をy_kとする。このとき2種類の計量，　x₁,x₂，……，x_N　y₁,y₂，……，y_Nが存在することになる。Nは非常に大きな数であるとし，最初のn個(n＜N)の壺の食塩水について検査できるとする。すなわち，x₁,x₂，……，x_n；y₁,y₂，……，y_nは知ることができる。
