Abbreviation of sonic radar or sound radar, also called sonic radar. A radar that uses sound waves instead of microwaves. By measuring the scattering of sound waves, it is possible to determine the temperature distribution in the atmosphere. In addition, wind speed can be measured by utilizing the Doppler effect. There are two methods: using the same measuring instrument for both transmission and reception, and using measuring instruments placed separately for transmission and reception. It is usually suitable for observations at heights ranging from tens to hundreds of meters. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
