A historical region in central-western Poland. Meaning "Greater Poland". A vast plain area surrounded by the regions of Silesia, Pomerania, Masovian, and Małopolska. It is part of the Wielkopolska-Kujawy lowland formed by the Oder (Odra) River system, the Warta River, the Notec River, and the Baricz River, and in the 19th century it was synonymous with the Grand Duchy of Poznan. Topographically, wide glacial valleys formed during the ice age and moraine hills made of glacial deposits are parallel to each other from east to west, but the surface is mostly low and flat.
