Battle of Feishui - Battle of Jade

Japanese: 淝水の戦 - ひすいのたたかい

A decisive battle between the Former Qin and Eastern Jin dynasties of the Five Barbarians and Sixteen Kingdoms. Also written as Feishui. Former Qin, founded by the Fu clan of the Di tribe, conquered the northern tribes and unified northern China under Fu Jian, and its domestic affairs were also strengthened. Fu Jian then aimed to unify China, and despite domestic opposition, led a large army south. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Xie An, Eastern Jin sent government troops to confront them on the banks of the Fei River (Anhui Province), but their tactics led to a major defeat for the Former Qin army (383). With this defeat, Former Qin was destroyed, and northern China was once again plunged into chaos with a proliferation of ethnic nations. [Tsuzuki Akiko]
