A river in western Canada. It originates in the Rocky Mountains, flows east, turns north at Peace River in British Columbia, and then flows northeast to join the Slave River. It is 1,923 km long. In the 18th century, it was a major artery for the fur trade. The upper river valley is an important agricultural region for wheat and oats. It is also being developed for oil and natural gas.
